Record lottery profits: a common headline anymore. Table games, slots, scratch-off tickets, online betting, sports betting, more ways to win, Powerball, double play win today, payoffs within 24 hours …

I see a daily barrage of gambling advertisements on TV. When we pass away, how many of our children will find out their inheritance is sitting at the bottom of a slot machine or in wastebaskets full of scratch-off tickets and betting slips?

Our politicians, in their greed for revenue, are taking us down a road we shouldn’t be going down. This road won’t end up in the town of riches or prosperity. More than likely, it will end up in the towns of heartache, poverty and despair.

TV and radio advertisements for cigarettes were banned because smoking tobacco is harmful to society. Is gambling good for society?
