Sept. 20 is National Voter Registration Day.

The newly formed League of Women Voters of Westmoreland County (LWVWC), a nonpartisan organization, urges you to vote in the upcoming midterm elections.

The right to vote is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and federal laws. The right to vote is what gives power to the first three words of the Constitution — “We the People” — and gives voice to the direction voters want the government to take through our elected representatives.

Because the LWVWC believes people can make profound changes in their communities through informed actions, the league sponsors VOTE411.org, an online resource where voters can verify voter registration status, register to vote, or update a registration with a new name, address or changed party affiliation.

Voters also can use VOTE411 to find out what is on their ballot and learn where candidates running for office stand on the issues. All candidates have been invited and encouraged to upload information directly into VOTE411 in order to speak to voters in their own words.

The LWVWC website, lwv-westmoreland.org, provides more information on registration and mail-in ballot deadlines along with additional information about voting.

The league hopes tools such as VOTE411 inspire voters to cast their ballots in the Nov. 8 election.
