It was Jan. 30, and the wake of the worst air disaster in recent memory. As recovery crews were pulling bodies out of the Potomac, the vice president decided that his time would be best spent tweeting.

He proceeded to engage in an hours-long argument about theology, culminating in a triumphant declaration that “The problem with Rory” (who is Rory?!) “is that he has an IQ of 110.” That tweet was sent at 3 p.m. on a Thursday. Responders were busy identifying the deceased, and families were busy getting awful news.

Vance is free to bicker with people on his own free time, but he needs to recognize he is not a private citizen any longer, and his duties are more important than winning social media battles.
