Letter to the editor: Get over Epstein? Where's the empathy?

Tribune-Review

I’ve written to this paper many times with concerns on things happening around this country. Of the current issues happening that I could choose to write about, I felt compelled to respond to the letter “Who cares about Jeffrey Epstein?” (Aug. 5, TribLive). This letter is concerning and shows the state this country is firmly in.

If the letter-writer actually believes with that flippant attitude and dismissal of such heinous crimes that time is being wasted on the Epstein case, and is more concerned about the stock market and interest rates, then President Trump is right, this country needs to reinstate psychiatric institutions.

Children were victims in this case — young women, some as young as 14! How can one display such depravity and callousness and be devoid of a moral compass?

I can’t wrap my brain around the total lack of empathy displayed concerning this tragedy. Perhaps demanding the truth and bringing whomever to justice should be foremost on the letter-writer’s mind, instead of the economy. She writes, “It’s just a matter of who gets caught.” How does she suppose they get caught? Does an investigation (something she is annoyed with) and, if enough evidence is gathered, a trial ring a bell? She uses the words “honorable” and “America” in her letter. Don’t do that. Not a good look.

A question for the letter-writer: Do you have children? Perhaps a daughter? Or do you know anybody who does? How would you feel as a mother if your 14-year-old daughter was a victim of sexual assault?
