I saw on the news that they want to build a new Commercial Street Bridge, which is part of Parkway East just before the Squirrel Hill Tunnel. What will that accomplish? It will just give you a nicer road to get stuck on before you get into the tunnel. This is unacceptable.
I would propose ripping a hole in Squirrel Hill to get rid of the tunnel. The dirt above it could fill in below the existing bridge. A new tunnel could be added to Commercial Street if needed. The dirt can be moved without stopping the traffic on the bridge.
An additional lane could be added to go from Swissvale through the now deleted tunnel.
