Letter to the editor: God might be that ‘something’ missing

I must disagree with the letter “God is a problem, not an answer” (July 29, TribLIVE). When God created man, he gave him free will. We use this free will to make choices, good or bad. God loves all his children and is a loving God who gets sad when his children make bad decisions, as all parents do when our children make bad decisions. We are sad but we never stop loving them. We try to get them back on the right track.

God does the same by forgiving us no matter how many times we err. If he was an “angry being with a childlike mentality,” as was stated in the letter, then he would have struck down those who did wrong, and there would not have been many people left.

God is not a wrathful, vengeful or angry deity. He is loving and forgiving and wants us to be the same. Remember: Love your neighbor as yourself, and if someone strikes your right cheek, then turn the other to them.

Faith is believing in something that you can’t see and sometimes cannot fully comprehend. Yes, our parents taught us about God, took us to church and encouraged dialogue, and we weren’t “damned for all eternity” when we questioned things.

Man has created such confusion and distrust in this world that we need some spiritual guidance. God is there, and all we have to do is ask for help.

I hope people who read this realize that they are missing something from their lives, and that something is God.
