Letter to the editor: Good fiscal stewards in Norwin
Did you know that the Norwin School District has one of the lowest tax rates in Western Pennsylvania? Probably not, as the squeaky wheel doesn’t like to make the general public aware of this.
Did you also know that Norwin has the lowest cost per student in Westmoreland County, let alone having lower costs per student than 493 out of 500 statewide school districts as reported by the PA Schools Work organization? A local snapshot shows this for costs per student, also as reported by PA Schools Work:
Norwin: $13,094
Latrobe: $14,214
Southmoreland: $14,503
Mt Pleasant: $15,215
Greensburg Salem: $15,530
Hempfield: $15,952
Yough: $16,083
Derry: $16,827
Franklin Regional: $17,125
Jeannette: $18,087
Ligonier Valley: $18,827
So, the squeaky wheel decries fiscal chaos in the Norwin School District and that the spending is out of control and more oversight is needed. Let the facts speak for themselves, facts being that leaders in Norwin are and have been for a very long time good fiscal stewards for the residents of North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin.
It’s time to separate the wheat from the chaff and decide to keep the squeaky wheels with questionable agendas from pulling the wool over your eyes. Please keep this in mind for the November general election.
