After much weeping, moaning and gnashing of teeth (on both sides), a panel has recommended to “disappear” the statue of Christopher Columbus from Schenley Park (“Pittsburgh Art Commission recommends removal of Columbus statue from Schenley Park.”) and the mayor agreed. The “art commission” has no problem with a “worthy Italian American.”

I submit for consideration putting Bruno Sammartino on the vacated pedestal. He fits the bill — a trustworthy Italian admired by everyone. He certainly has a statuesque presence, although every minute of his long career must be investigated by the FBI, NSA, CIA, Lt. Columbo, Gov. Tom Wolf (His Highness) and many others. Only then can his image ascend to its rightful place.

All hail Bruno!
