Letter to the editor: GOP betraying America
Letter-writer Katie Forsythe (“Republicans taking us back to the past,” Feb. 22, TribLIVE) and columnist Jonah Goldberg (“RNC’s idea of ‘legitimate political discourse’ shows how far gone it is,” Feb. 9, TribLIVE) are right regarding the GOP. It wasn’t enough for Republican politicians to lick Donald Trump’s boots; they continue to deny the Jan. 6 coup Trump and his toadies created. And, even though the courts agreed that there was no fraud during the 2020 election, they are overturning election laws from 2020 — in my opinion, to bring back the worst of Jim Crow because many people of color voted for Joe Biden.
Some Republicans are banning books so their children can’t read about the Holocaust, slavery, and sexual and gender identity. Why?
Many in the GOP reject science, telling their constituents they don’t have to vaccinate. They continue to support Trump despite his treason. There are still Republicans sitting in Congress who refuse to acknowledge Biden won, despite their oath of office to protect the U.S. from foreign and domestic enemies (Trump’s racist minions who sent dozens of police officers to hospitals during the coup).
Their political perversity gets worse. Now, at least one senator wants to “honor” Trump by naming the “wall” he wasted taxpayer money on after him. That would be like the pope naming a basilica after Judas Iscariot, or a military base being named after Benedict Arnold. The only difference between Trump and Iscariot is that Judas had the decency to hang himself after his betrayal. Trump wants to betray America again in 2024.
