Each day 600-700 Americans die of covid-19. It is a little hard to wrap your head around that large a number of deaths. And still our federal government has no strategy to protect us. Their callousness is difficult to comprehend. The health professionals tell us this virus will be with us for years. How many Americans will die during that time due to government neglect?

Thankfully, we have a governor who has the leadership and courage to take action to battle this crisis. It is unfortunate that Republicans are politicizing this public health crisis rather than working as one team to safeguard us. Gov. Tom Wolf’s disaster declaration aids the state in the pandemic response. Ending it, as the Republicans want, would jeopardize services now in place and hamper the state’s ability to respond to our unusual needs. To streamline government to quickly respond to circumstances — that is why you have a disaster plan in the first place.
