My husband and I, and many others I’m sure, would like to thank St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the businesses and patron saints of Crabtree for the spectacular display of fireworks July 15.
Coming to Crabtree on this evening has been a 70-year tradition for my family. My dad would sit us kids on a blanket in the field with the cows roaming around, and we waited impatiently for the fireworks to begin. By midnight, my brother and sister were fast asleep, but I was not, in anticipation of the display. Such a simple thing, but remembered a lifetime.
For my husband and I, married 60 years, one of our first dates was the carnival and fireworks. Standing on the grounds of the fire hall and feeling the earth shake under our feet — what fun!
We continued this tradition every year. Now we sit in the bed of our truck, in chairs, next to the cornfields, with a cooler of refreshments and snacks. We still wait in anticipation just like we did as kids. This year did not disappoint. The display was the most spectacular we have ever witnessed.
We thank you all for the continued celebration of this hometown display of Americana. There were many of us parked along the back roads and hillsides to enjoy every spark shot from the cannons. If you were listening when it was all over, you could have heard us clapping, whistling and screaming our “bravos” for an outstanding evening’s entertainment.
May God continue to bless all of you who keep our hometown traditions alive.
