Letter to the editor: Grateful for Mike Doyle's work

Tribune-Review

For many, the passage of the fiscal year 2023 federal omnibus spending package was lost in the holiday shuffle. But its passage is particularly momentous for the Braddock Carnegie Library Association (BCLA), which received significant federal dollars as a result of Community Project Funding (CPF).

Thanks to Congressman Mike Doyle, the BCLA received $4 million to support the library’s Capital Campaign for Carnegie One — a project to renovate and make fully accessible Andrew Carnegie’s first library in the U.S.

While the Campaign for Carnegie One has received generous support from a variety of stakeholders, including local philanthropic institutions like Eden Hall, the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and critical corporations like U. S. Steel and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Doyle’s leadership in securing a CPF grant is the largest contribution to the campaign to date.

For 28 years, our region benefitted from Doyle’s strong and thoughtful leadership. He always recognized the community asset that is the BCLA, and he continued to advocate for it through the waning days of his term. On behalf of the BCLA board and the communities the BCLA serves, we’re grateful for Doyle’s commitment to the district he so admirably served.
