Letter to the editor: Greatest generation not expendable
All of what I find as President Trump’s disgusting behaviors have been exposed through recent books, cable news and even this very opinion page of the Trib — beyond his lack of caring and intelligence and constant stoking of division. In my opinion, covid-19 has been one of the most horrendous displays of incompetence, with mixed messages, lies and over 200,000 people dead.
Early on, politicians seemed to have no regard for the most vulnerable. As of late, Joe Biden fears we are becoming numb to all the covid-19 deaths. In March, the Texas lieutenant governor stated that he and other old people would volunteer to get sick or die from covid-19 to save the economy.
This group that Republicans seem to dismiss are referred to as America’s Greatest Generation. They endured the Great Depression in the 1930s and World War II in the ’40s. Both men and women did their part to battle and defeat a ferocious dictator that wanted world domination. They are more than deserving of the name Greatest Generation, which doesn’t really even do them justice.
Now during covid-19, these folks are thought to be expendable by politicians and non-mask-wearing public? I’ve heard people say, “only old people die of covid.” Shameful. Americans have short memories and seemingly have become self-centered with little regard for others or a sense of history.
To me this doesn’t show America’s greatness.
