Letter to the editor: Greensburg Salem should cut administration
The Trib reported in at least two articles (“Proposed Greensburg Salem budget cuts staff instead of raising taxes,” May 27, TribLIVE; “Divided Greensburg Salem School Board rejects proposed budget,” May 20, TribLIVE) the Greensburg Salem School Board has drafted a 2020-21 budget that specifies eliminating some teacher and librarian positions, and reducing instructional support staff. Strangely, there was no mention in either article of reductions in the administrative staff.
Does the school board not recognize the very essence of the educational system is the instructional staff that delivers “the product” and, moreover, the administrative personnel are really overhead that contribute nothing directly to the education of our students?
Related to this, I strongly believe with the elimination of one or so carefully selected senior administrative positions, several teachers and/or librarian positions could be retained, thus minimizing the draconian impact of the budget as proposed.
