I feel that Westmoreland County Register of Wills Sherry Magretti Hamilton should resign immediately (“Westmoreland Register of Wills fined, agrees to resign,” June 17, TribLive). It is a shame she can’t simply be removed from office. It is a deplorable situation where we, the taxpayers, must watch her continue to collect paychecks. She was elected by the people and is being paid with our tax dollars.

Hamilton did not fulfill her duties as register of wills. Even after attempts by the county to hold her accountable for the backlog, we are still watching her fail in her duties. She blamed it on her staff. If I were working for her and she did not show up half of the time, did not attempt to help with the backlog and was still collecting a hefty paycheck, I would be struggling as well.

What a relief that she is not going to run for reelection. She has the audacity to think that we would even want her! Hamilton should back away and go peddle her pencils anywhere but in public service.
