Letter to the editor: Hate-filled letters by law enforcement alarming

Tribune-Review

Protect and serve? Editor, editor, editor … it’s terrifying to read letters that you publish, but it’s surprising to see how much racism and bigotry pervade this little area. More surprising is what happens when I look up the authors of these letters, particularly “Not going to take it anymore” (Aug. 6, TribLive) and “Fetterman’s plight is due to her mother’s choices” (June 26, TribLive). It shows me that some of our local police have lied about the oaths they’ve taken to protect and serve every person in their community.

The most basic name search reveals buckets of hate-filled screeds that I think would be pretty disqualifying if found during a background check.

When sports stars get political, they’re told to shut up and dribble. Maybe some of these taxpayer-leeching, hate-filled conservatives with taxpayer-funded guns need to shut up and do their jobs, too. Based on the statements published in this paper by members of local law enforcement, our police forces are not for non-white, non-cis, non-hetero, non-Christians.

We cannot allow full-throated bigots with mental health issues to have state-sponsored access to weapons. I’ve started investigating the social media history of my local law enforcement officers, and I’d encourage every reader here to do the same. Those whose devotion to Donald Trump usurps their devotion to their communities must be expunged from the payrolls.
