Does anyone else look around and think that Make America Great Again is more like Make America Hate Again? Does it seem like somebody against somebody and nobody standing with nobody? Isn’t it exhausting and sad?
Think how lucky babies are when they are born. They don’t hate, and they don’t care about political parties, religion, sexual orientation or skin color. We can teach them to hate or to be racist, homophobic, xenophobic or bullies. Sometimes we even justify these teachings as part of our religion. I wasn’t taught any of these things, and I didn’t teach them to my daughter, and it shows and shines in her.
“You against me and me against you” is failing miserably and taking our country with it. I will leave you with Ronald Reagan’s words that used to matter and may some day matter again:
“I’ve spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don’t know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall, proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, windswept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace; a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That’s how I saw it, and see it still.”
