Letter to the editor: Health care competition

Tribune-Review

Does competition in health care bring down costs? Judging from their comments, health care providers are more interested in competing on quality than on cost.

When a doctor tells people they need a procedure done, how many shop around for price? Does building more hospitals bring down the cost of health care? All those empty beds are a loss on the balance sheet.

There was a clinic near me that performed procedures like colonoscopies. It closed down because a big insurer refused to pay for its customers to use it. Now the procedures are done in a hospital. More overhead, more cost.
