Letter to the editor: Help available to pay gas bills

Tribune-Review

October is the perfect time to explore assistance programs that can help lower your natural gas bill before the first cold snap. Peoples Natural Gas customers have access to programs that can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars this winter.

Many customers assume they don’t qualify, but these programs serve working families, seniors on fixed incomes and anyone experiencing hardship. Approximately one-quarter of Peoples customers are eligible for assistance. Applying is easy and our customer service team can help you apply for multiple programs at once.

Peoples’ Customer Assistance Program (CAP) lets income-eligible customers pay just 4%-6% of their monthly income instead of usage-based bills. A family of five earning up to $56,475 qualifies. Our Emergency Repair Program covers the full cost of fixing broken equipment or gas lines for eligible households — ensuring your home stays safe before winter.

Our partners at the Dollar Energy Fund offer grants up to $500 for customers facing financial hardship. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides annual grants up to $1,000 toward heating costs. We’re hopeful LIHEAP applications will open soon — and it’s important to apply early as funding is first-come, first-served.

These programs can help you stay secure when life takes an unexpected turn. Don’t delay turning on the furnace and risk your health because of concerns about the cost. Visit Peoples-Gas.com/help or call 800-764-0111 today.

Support is available. Funding is ready. The only thing missing is your application.
