The Hempfield Area School Board voted last month to reinstate residential tax reassessments (“Hempfield school officials move forward with tax assessment appeals,” July 23, TribLIVE). This is not the “Welcome to Hempfield” message current residents and possible future investors in our communities would think the sign in front of Hempfield Area High School would intend.

School district residents, myself and fellow Hempfield supervisors cried out publicly against this plan last year. What do the six school board members who voted to selectively prey on homeowners not understand? How can it be “fair” to selectively choose one class of property owners over another group?

History has shown time and time again that when the current majority remains silent while a minority is victimized, they will eventually feel the same pain. After the $250,000 selected class of property owners is exhausted, who will be next on this quick predatory cash grab by the school directors? Please stop victimizing property owners who are investing in our community.
