Letter to the editor: Hijacking our election

Our state House representatives will be voting on a shameful proposal aimed at hijacking our legitimate votes. House Resolution 1032 would create a Select Committee on Election Integrity to investigate and make reviews and recommendations on the regulation and conduct of the 2020 election. The GOP would hold more seats than Democrats, and the wording is very vague. This is nothing but a naked power grab to delay the counting and certification of election results and pave the way for the GOP-controlled House to appoint its own electors who’d favor President Donald Trump.

There are already GOP lawsuits against county elections officials about satellite elections offices, drop-off boxes for mail-in ballots and a ban on partisan poll watchers who might intimidate voters. All of these measures were set up to help voters afraid of covid-19 infections and serious illness. Constant attacks to delegitimize our ballots and elections by one party violate our democracy.

The state House is adjourned because of a member testing positive for covid-19 until Oct. 19. I urge voters to call their state House representative and urge a “no” vote to HR 1032.
