Letter to the editor: Hit piece on Mastriano yellow journalism

The Associated Press article “Christian nationalism on the rise in some GOP campaigns” (May 29, TribLIVE) was subversive yellow journalism. It contained all the conventional sleights of journalistic hand.

Doug Mastriano and campaign officials “ignored requests for comment” and rejected the Christian nationalist label, yet it was positioned as fact. I felt the article mocked people of faith who acknowledge or thank God for their successes, quote Scripture and listen to faith-based music. Citing “observers” and opinions of “scholars” — code for leftist academia — the hit piece descends into outright contempt for “deplorable” voters of Christian faith.

Like stringing together jumbled letters of the alphabet, the 1,300-word screed described the horrible threat of homophobic, gender-intolerant, anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim, QAnon racists that are part of the GOP. In my opinion, this attempt to disparage Mastriano (and his supporters) alienated and insulted your subscribers, except those of adolescent intellect who continue to submit rambling letters to the editor about President Trump and Jan. 6.

Now 18 months beyond their collective unconsciousness, we’re witnessing the collapse of the border, the economy, national security and our way of life as crime surges in Democrat-run cities, along with gas prices rising everywhere. Newborns are going hungry. Our biggest concern is not people of Christian faith getting elected to office, or a potential return to traditional values, sanctity of life, keeping drugs illegal and punishment for crime — including at the border. The concern is for all those incapable of appreciating the halcyon days of the previous administration, and their next dose of Haldol.
