I have a few comments on the article “Employee exodus blamed on hostile work environment in Allegheny Township” (Aug. 18, TribLIVE).
To the Allegheny Township Supervisors: You all were elected by the voters. If there is hostility, deal with it. The voters entrusted you to do what is best to move the township forward and keep taxes at bay. If you can’t deal with conflict or learn to compromise, then step aside and let someone in who can. Keep your disagreements in-house and resolve them like adults and not in the media.
To the outgoing township manager: Kudos to you for staying out of the open politics. If you are leaving for what you feel is a better position, best wishes to you. If you are leaving because of “hostilities,” keep in mind the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
To the administrative folks who are retiring or leaving: I have had maybe 70 different managers, and I can count on one hand the ones who were any good. Sometimes, you have to deal with adversity in your job. Do the best job you can every day and go home. Eventually everything seems to change, sometimes for the better.
To the Tribune-Review editorial staff: Was Aug. 18 such a slow news day that the internal disputes of a local township had to be splashed on the front page? I am sure if I walked down the halls of the Tribune-Review offices, I would find some disgruntled employees, as well. Think before you publish.
