Seven-term state Rep. George Dunbar, R-Penn Township, has announced he won’t seek an eighth term; there is a God, thank-you.
County Republican Party Chair Bill Bretz and all the local RINOs praised his service and said he will be missed. I say, missed by the Dems. I’m sure Bretz will find a similar weak compromiser to fill his shoes. Dunbar, like Eric Nelson, R-Hempfield, voted for Act 77 mail-in ballots and defended it vehemently. Dunbar, like Nelson, couldn’t admit he was wrong. This is the sin of pride.
Why did Republicans champion a Democrat initiative? This is endemic to what is wrong with Pennsylvania legislators. Rep. Leslie Rossi, R-Unity, is the only local elected official I trust.
Our state budget has ballooned from $39 billion to $46 billion in just five years. Dunbar, an accountant, was all in on spending increases. In 2023, when the Republicans had a one-vote temporary majority in the House, Dunbar voted for a Democratic speaker and gave any advantage we would’ve had away. Why would he do that unless he is so used to compromising that he lost his way? This is the definition of “uni-party.”
Some of the 56th District falls under “Summer/Winter Lee,” a very progressive liberal Democrat. I’m sure Voice of Westmoreland will find the most liberal candidate to replace Dunbar if you let them.
