How obvious is the hypocrisy of Fox commentators and many Republican legislators? The emails and recordings, now public, from Jan. 6, 2021, say it all. This from the people who claim they’re the “moral authority,” the holier than thou club.
They, together, blame Democrats for moral decay in America? Yet, Republicans continue to support extreme candidates like Marjorie Taylor Green, Matt Gaetz, Kevin McCarthy and locally, Doug Mastriano. I see nothing holy about these folks and their ideas. It seems to me the GOP has no policy, and gathers votes with fear and lies. I recently heard a network commentator say, “these extreme Republican views are not new, they have just been exposed.”
So, the hypocrisy continues as this group rewards bigotry and antisemitism with their vote? The former president exemplifies this craziness with 74 million votes. Even today in Westmoreland County, one doesn’t have to go far before seeing a flying Confederate flag or a derogatory sign about the last legitimate presidential election. I don’t get the anger, hatred and the insurrection deniers. Weirdly, this reminds me of the metaphoric expression, “We are what we eat.” Not too far a stretch to change that to “We are who we vote for.”
Behaviors need to change. If not, extreme politicians will be elected, haters will be emboldened and gun violence will continue to devastate families. We see it every day, seemingly with no end in sight.
