Letter to the editor: If America is mediocre, why welcome illegals?

My hometown in the late ’50s had a small grocery store and a tiny fruit and vegetable store. When apricots or avocados came in, word got out, as it was a big deal.

I went to Giant Eagle to buy potatoes for potato salad. There were six varieties of potatoes, not to mention mounds of summer produce, trays of fresh seafood, beef, veal, pork, chicken, turkey, ham, sausages — such is the bounty available all year round

When pundits broadcast how America is “average at best,” how little they know of history, or aware they are of the liberties with which they have been blessed by God.

Similar complaints emanate from those deep in debt whose suffering in America is barely assuaged by their macchiato, latte, cappuccino or “artfully roasted” coffee.

If America is so mediocre, racist and deplorable, why would critics want open borders and citizens to pay for health care, education and a path to citizenship for those who trespass illegally?

Socialists decry border conditions as “concentration camps.” Do they weep for the filthy homeless conditions in LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, D.C. or other “sanctuary cities” run by leftists?
