Sen. Lindsey Williams chose to go to law school on borrowed money. Due to her choice she has debt and thinks the state taxpayers should help her and others in her situation (“In Pennsylvania, young lawmakers drive conversation on reducing student debt,” March 24, TribLIVE). She is what is wrong with people today — lack of individual responsibility for their individual choice. You choose to take on debt. It is your burden, not the taxpayers’ burden.

Perhaps Williams should look at the greater cause of spiraling college costs. We shove young adults into an education they may not want or be able to achieve or afford. We tell them loans will cover the cost. We feed the beast. In the past 20 years the average private college cost has increased 168%. Out-of-state tuition at public colleges has increased 200%, while the in-state cost has increased 243%. These are according to USNews.com.

Perhaps Williams should be asking colleges to stop spending and reduce student cost. Then again, that might stop the indoctrination to socialist policies.
