Letter to the editor: Immigration insanity on the left

I have tried very hard over years to avoid getting caught up in the divisive and extreme ideologies of the far left and right.

It’s now nearly impossible because, in Washington and Harrisburg, the middle has nearly disappeared entirely.

I’m observing things I never dreamed I’d see in my lifetime. President Biden certainly played his hand recently by opposing Gov. Greg Abbott’s state effort to stem the tide of illegal immigration. Wow! Imagine showing your hand this blatantly.

It’s obvious to me why this is happening. Quick legalization, citizenship and fast track to voting. (For Democrats, of course.) Just as the church supports it for more congregants, Democratic leaders see millions of new voters.

It’s sad to observe what I see as a mentally fragile president and his unqualified associate supporting an invasion. It’s a slap in the face to every immigrant who came here legally for the past 80 years.

It’s pathetic, but it doesn’t surprise me that there are many Senate and House members who support this as well. (I consider silence support.) U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, to his credit, is the only Democrat with enough guts to break from the hive and call out this mess. (Sen. Bob Casey, where are you?)

A recent meme showing a lady with a sign that reads “Vote Republican, they’re not great but the other side is insane,” may be appropriate in this case.
