Letter to the editor: Insults on school choice won't help kids
After Gov. Josh Shapiro’s sudden announcement that he would veto school choice vouchers in the state budget, the Trib prints an opinion piece, “The letter that sank school choice in Pa.” (July 15, TribLIVE) blaming it all on “noxious” Republican messengers. The author smears two previous Department of Education secretaries and one previous Republican House majority leader for sending a letter supporting school vouchers to the Shapiro administration. He describes the Republicans as “weird,” “a bogeyman” and “not great.”
I think it would be fair for the Trib to print this supposedly vile letter that caused all Pennsylvania Democratic officials to oppose school choice. Did the Trib editorial board at least read the letter in question before publishing this partisan attack by an opinion columnist?
Oh, well. Let’s just keep attacking and lobbing insults at each other. Meanwhile, some disadvantaged Pennsylvania children in some poor-performing public schoolhouses remain disadvantaged children in poor-performing public schoolhouses.
