Bravo, Hempfield Area School Director Jeanne Smith (“Hempfield Area to resume book battles next week,” Nov. 20, TribLIVE): Such intelligent thoughts: “Those objecting (to the book) can opt out of using that source … . Library books can widen a student’s perspective, expose them to different life cultures and lifestyles.”

I do not want others to tell my teenage grandchildren what they can read or how to think. Remember Adolf Hitler? He not only banned books but had them burned. One of the books in question, “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” is a memoir of the life of a queer Black youth, not a sexual manual. It disgusted everybody, according to Director Jennifer Bretz? Those handful of parents need to get a life and stop insulating their children from life itself.
