Letter to the editor: It shouldn’t be so hard to find a meal in Tarentum

We had a terrific weekend in the Tarentum business district March 5-6 as people, many from out of state, visited the Depression Glass and Pottery Show at the Quality Inn in New Kensington. Some were artists who were visiting the new exhibit at the Manos Gallery. Others were motorcycle enthusiasts attending an event at Gatto’s.

All had one question I couldn’t answer: Is there any place in town we can get a meal? Sorry, not in Tarentum. Lunch on a weekend? Can’t be done. And before you tell me about pandemics and labor shortages, let me just say, it was the same way since way before the pandemic. Some places open for a few hours for breakfast on Saturday, some open at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Some don’t open at all. None are open Sunday.

We did our best to direct customers to Harvest Moon Coffee and Chocolates on Saturday to keep them in town, but otherwise, they had to go elsewhere for a meal. I love our town and our business district, and I really hate to send customers elsewhere.
