Letter to the editor: It's worth protesting Trump's actions

Tribune-Review

I have attended several anti-Trump rallies and suggested to liberal friends that they go, but they say “it won’t help.” My response is that President Trump would collapse without the support of his sycophants in Congress. If these sycophants see massive crowds protesting Trump’s power grabs, they might worry about their prospects in the next election.

I don’t think Trump cares about this country; he is in it for the money. According to the Wall Street Journal, he has raked in $80 million so far with cryptocurrency schemes, etc., violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution, which I guess he doesn’t care about.

The Republican Party is on the unpopular side of every issue. Most people want legal abortion, gun control, climate action and fair elections. He lied to get into office, running on promises to lower prices “on the first day” but instead gave us tariffs and more tax cuts for the rich, both inflationary. He will stop at nothing to seize power.

If you voted for Trump, ask yourself: What has he done for me so far? His deportation policies are cruel, unnecessary and will be very damaging to the economy, since we need those people. He is deporting many people who are here legally, and by the way, I’m sick of hearing about “open borders.” That is a lie.

He promised to be a dictator on the first day. That is the only promise he has kept.

We are on the road to dictatorship, and dictatorships are very hard to get out of. Let’s attend these rallies while we still can.
