Letter to the editor: Jail is not a 5-star hotel

OK, now I know we have gone nuts! Mommy wants her son to be served kosher food while in prison (“Westmoreland inmate accused of stabbing mother should have kosher meals, she says,” July 28, TribLive). Does she think “Prison” is the name of a 5-star hotel? This is not a vacation spot. She should be glad that under the laws her son flaunted, ignored and broke, he must be treated with more regard than he deserves or would be granted in many other countries.

I agree that he should be allowed to pray in whatever manner he chooses but he should dress in the same prison garb the other inmates wear, eat the same food the other inmates eat and thank my God that he is well fed. If this is not acceptable, stay out of jail.

This rehabilitation BS is just that. Jail takes away all your liberties as punishment for your misdeeds, and Mommy should thank God that I’m not making the rules.
