As a former eight-year member of Murrysville Council, I have a reasonable understanding of local politics. I’ve learned that the skill sets required to be an effective representative include intelligence, being principled, ethical and pragmatic, and honoring your commitments.

I’ve known our current state representative, Jill Cooper, for nearly 20 years and have found that she exemplifies the characteristics necessary to be effective at her job. To no great surprise, Cooper has used her skills to represent our district extremely well during her current term. Therefore, she has more than fulfilled her commitment to us, and I am proud to support her for reelection as our state representative.

Cooper’s opponent also made a commitment to us. Specifically, when she was elected to Murrysville Council starting in 2021, we thought she would honor the commitment of remaining on council through 2025. Instead, she has decided to move on at the expense of her council commitment. I’m now wondering what other commitments she might decide to abandon for a better opportunity.

My vote, and strong endorsement, goes to Jill Cooper in District 55.
