I don’t think Westmoreland County’s former District Attorney John Peck’s behavior had anything to do with his election loss to Nicole Ziccarelli (“Could John Peck’s behavior be factor in his loss?,” Jan. 1, TribLIVE). I believe his loss was a combination of her repeated anti-Democratic rhetoric, personal attacks and allegations she made against him, throughout that campaign.

I disapprove of her telling the Tribune-Review her grandfather would be proud of her becoming Westmoreland County’s district attorney. I was born and raised in McKeesport and knew Ziccarelli’s grandfather, Nicholas Skezas. He was a businessman, community leader and Democratic member of city council, who was always able to find ways to compromise with his Republican counterparts, to get positive things done for the city and its residents. He treated everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their race, religion or political affiliation, and he would never resort to damaging a political opponent’s reputation to win an election.
