Letter to the editor: Karaica best candidate for district judge
While I hope never to find myself or a loved one in a scenario where they must appear in district court, I have some thoughts about whom I’d want to hear the case.
As a citizen’s first exposure to the judicial system, I’d prefer a magisterial district judge who is knowledgeable and qualified, yet humble and approachable, who will talk with me in terms I will understand, not at me in legal jargon. Though having a law degree is a commendable accomplishment, it’s not required for this job and won’t be of any added benefit if one can’t communicate first and foremost in a way that resonates with people.
When thinking of MDJs that previously served our community I think of David Sosovicka, who knew the community and how to reach out to them; knowing when to demonstrate compassion and when to exercise firmness.
It’s for these reasons I support Mitch Karaica for magisterial district judge. Aside from his qualifications, it is Karaicia’s sincere understanding of the community and ability to relate to the needs and concerns of the district’s residents that make him an appealing candidate to me.
