In response to the article “New housing development approved in Hempfield” (May 1, TribLIVE): While it is true that Hempfield is approving a record number of housing developments, it is also true that there aren’t a large number of houses selling.

This could be because we are bringing in outside contractors and developers to do our high school and industrial park. These businesses have no blue-collar employees and only a small local office, bring in out-of-town contractors and use temporary labor.

It is difficult to buy a nice house and raise kids to attend a new school without a good-paying job. Also with the industrial park developing cookie-cutter warehouse spaces, those jobs won’t pay for houses, either.

Our elected officials have to do better if they want to grow the township. Keep our money in the area.
