The story “South Greensburg firefighters, public works crew rescue 8 ducklings from storm drain” (June 10, TribLIVE) brought a smile to my lips and a lump to my throat. Kudos to those who went out of their way to rescue these helpless creatures. Their act of kindness is a bright light in the darkness that has descended on our beloved land. The story reminds us all life matters, whether black, brown, red or white, human or animal; all creatures great and small, the Lord God made them all.

My mother often said anyone who loves dogs and children can’t be all bad. This holds as well for anyone who cares for eight ducklings suffering the misfortune of falling into a storm drain. Didn’t Jesus say something to the effect of “inasmuch as you did it (for) one of the least of these my brethren (ducklings), you did it (for) me”?

Thanks, guys, for making my day!
