Regarding the article “Harrison pauses on plan for police chief to retire, be rehired” (June 28, TribLIVE): Harrison has had the finest in law enforcement for the past 38 years, 28 of them under Police Chief Michael Klein.

Klein has held the position as chief with integrity, and, under his supervision and guidance, many fine officers have learned under his tutelage. He is to be commended for his outstanding service to his community and also surrounding communities due to his dedication as a volunteer in his community.

Klein’s diligence and commitment to public safety is unwavering, and Harrison Township has been very fortunate to have him at the helm for so many years. I wholeheartedly recommend that Harrison residents let their voices be heard in support of the terrific proposal being discussed through council of Klein retiring then being rehired at 32 hours a week . It is not only economically sound by saving the township money, but, most importantly, the township would have his continued dedication to protecting its citizens and properties.

You are very fortunate to have this opportunity to retain Klein. I urge you to show your support by letting council members know that rehiring Klein under the proposed agreement would greatly benefit Harrison Township in every positive way.
