In the news recently was the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Massacre. I had never heard of it until now. I am concerned with what happened afterward, which was nothing. Hundreds of lives lost, hundreds of homes and businesses lost, and nothing was done. No one was ever imprisoned or brought to trial for these crimes. Generations of people were brought up to not talk about it, to ignore it, to pretend it never happened. We can’t change history, but we can learn from history.

Now go to Jan. 6, 2021, the riot and assault on our country’s Capitol. People died, hundreds were injured and there was $1.5 million in damages. What is being done about it? Many of our senators blocked a commission to investigate. They don’t want to talk about it, they ignore it and some even think it didn’t really happen.

There’s an old saying, “history repeats itself.” In the 1930s, one man in Germany amassed a huge army of loyal followers in a movement that swept across Europe, resulting in World War II and the deaths of millions of people. And it all started with just one man who wanted power and destroyed anyone and anything in his way.

Remember, “history repeats itself.” Scary, isn’t it?

One last word for our senators and representatives: You were elected to serve the people, not one man.
