An extinction crisis threatens birds around the country, including in Pennsylvania. Fortunately, Congress has legislation in the works that would save birds and wildlife. Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) would address bird and other wildlife declines by providing $1.3 billion annually for state and territorial wildlife action plans, and $97.5 million annually for tribal wildlife programs. These locally led plans would ensure that species receive attention before requiring more critical and costly care.
The House of Representatives passed this bipartisan bill in April. Now RAWA awaits a Senate vote.
The American Bird Conservancy Action Fund urges Senate leadership to prioritize this legislation and get it passed. An overwhelming majority, 70%, of Americans support the bill, according to a recent survey by Responsive Management.
