The media is addressing former President Trump as president-elect. Trump was in office from 2017 to 2021, so why is he addressed as president-elect? Shouldn’t he be addressed as president re-elect? It was the same with the late former President Ronald Reagan when he was elected to two terms. And former President Obama for two terms.

I listen to people in the media reporting that the former president was elected to a second term. Was the Constitution recently amended so a president can be elected to a second term or more? That should be corrected to be reported as the president re-elect will begin the last term in office.

Trump is the second president to have his two terms split (some are reporting consecutive terms, but I don’t know what the difference is). Until this election cycle, the only president to have his two terms split was Grover Cleveland in 1892, about 132 years ago, so Trump is making history. Two years from now, Trump will be the sitting president when this nation celebrates its 250 years of independence from the British crown with what some historians claim is a living Constitution, a document that can be amended. How many nations on this planet can boast that?
