Letter to the editor: Let's get back to respecting others
Respect, such a small word, but such a big meaning in itself. Some people don’t respect authority. You see it in everyday life. You see it on the news, people not respecting the police, teachers, clergy, parents, elected officials, in sporting events and to say the least disrespecting human life. It makes me wonder if the word should be taken out of the dictionary.
I watched President Donald Trump addressing Congress and the American people. There was a fine example of disrespect, and I might add, on both sides. But whether you like him or not, he is still the president. Millions of viewers watched a member of Congress evicted for heckling the president, and heard our president calling other officials disrespectful names.
This should all be stopped right now. I stopped calling people names when I was in the third grade. I can see why we don’t have order on our streets when we don’t have order and respect with people running our country. What are we teaching our youth today? Respect or disrespect?
Come on people, let’s be part of the solution, not part of the problem. With all due respect, I urge everyone, Mr. President, Congress, to start working together. You’re not in the third grade anymore. You’re dealing with people’s lives. You should all be above the name calling and the disrespect you are giving everyone, and work together like one nation under God.
