Letter to the editor: Let's remember the real Christmas story

On. Nov. 26, I scanned the Tribune-Review’s listing of Christmas movies and specials being aired on TV. I don’t think one of them was an actual Christmas story — you know, about the birth of Christ, or the journey of the wise men, or the reason for the journey to Bethlehem, or the purpose of the birth.

We claim to be a Christian nation, so where is the outcry against the commercialization of this, the greatest gift ever given? Why are we not concerned that Christmas has become “the holiday season”? That Santa Claus is the main character on cards, on TV and in Christmas displays?

Children don’t even have to be “good for Santa” because they already have everything any kid could want.

We can’t sing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” because someone claims it’s about date rape, and we can’t listen to true Christmas music on some radio stations because it might offend a non-Christian. Then change the station!

If you are not celebrating the birth of Christ, then I wish you peace and happiness all year long. If you are celebrating the birth of Christ, I wish you joy in the blessing he is to all who believe. I wish you comfort in the knowledge that he is with you always and faith that the best is yet to be.

Merry Christmas.
