Letter to the editor: Letter-writers need a reality check

Tribune-Review

Two recent letters have me wondering what reality the authors are living in.

“Trump has integrity, honor” (July 29, TribLive) opened with “Trump is a man of integrity and honor.” “Harris will win because of Biden’s ‘payoffs’ ” (July 30, TribLive) accused President Biden of “payoffs” to the Teamsters and other groups.

First, how is a convicted felon a man of honor? A person who bragged about grabbing a woman’s privates. A man who ran a dishonest university he was forced to close and repay tuition to the students. Read Donald Trump’s book, “The Art of the Deal.” It’s more like the art of being a weasel in making realty deals. No, this is not a man of integrity and honor. That’s reality.

The other author stated that Biden made a $36 billion “payoff” in taxpayer money to the Teamsters union, obviously a reference to the $36 billion Biden authorized in December 2022 to help save pensions and prevent cuts to the retirement income of 350,000 Teamsters workers and retirees. Sir, did you not see Sean O’Brien, president of the Teamsters union, address the Republican National Committee convention in support of Donald Trump? In what reality would Biden make a “payoff” to a union that supports Trump?

Going forward, the writers of these letters need to stop and do reality checks before offering opinions that obviously have no basis in fact.
