Letter to the editor: Look at reasons for reps' votes before forming opinion
In response to Teri Krause’s letter “Monitor reps’ votes before casting yours” (April 1, TribLIVE): I would suggest that she read the changes made to the Violence Against Women Act, and maybe then she would realize why people would vote against it.
It’s obvious the eight GOP representatives she mentions don’t support violence against women, so you would think there must be something else going on. That said, wouldn’t it be wise to read the changes to the act and listen to the reasons why people aren’t supporting it? If you read it, you would find that the wording was changed to be made very vague and could cause much harm to innocent people depending on how it’s interpreted.
One should seek out the reasons why people vote for or against something before forming an opinion. And if you do have an opinion you want to publicize, you should explain why you don’t agree with the opposing view.
