I have been told that there was a time when the walls of coal miners’ patch homes held pictures of two much-admired men of that almost forgotten era. Then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt was one, and United Mine Workers union head John L. Lewis was the other. I never personally saw the photos but heard the story often enough that I believe it to be true.
This leads me to believe that MAGA folks must be anxious to hang copies of photos of their scowling, twice-impeached, thrice-married, quadruply indicted hero Donald Trump’s mug shot. But I think they should hold off on purchasing any framed semi-glossies for their living room walls. A photo of Trump in handcuffs while wearing an orange jumpsuit might be worth waiting for. By then, the defiant visage might have morphed into one showing a little less defiance. I’ll not hold my breath.
In the interest of full disclosure, I confess to having a personally autographed photo of a young U.S. Sen. Joe Biden hanging in my den. Taken nearly 50 years ago, the photo shows he and I wearing what Billy Joel would call “a younger man’s clothes.”
Some will say this puts me in the same category as the MAGAs. Not true!
