Letter to the editor: Making Dilbert proud
I had the best laugh of this year reading the story “Quality assurance manager hired for Westmoreland elections, pay is $80K” (Oct. 21, TribLIVE).
The $80,000/year salary ($20,000 more than first planned) and hiring of a “former controller with oil and gas company Huntley & Huntley” seemed off to me as I read the story. Alas, I was later comforted by Westmoreland County Public Works Director Greg McCloskey, who was quoted as saying, “He brings from his previous position quality assurance experience that fits our needs,” and continuing, “He will take our core functions, identified as weaknesses, and restructure them and create processes around those functions.”
My wife will attest that I had difficulty reading aloud this last quote, as I couldn’t stop laughing. What does this mean, and will it improve our election system? As a fervent fan of Scott Adams’ Dilbert cartoons, I can imagine Wally replying, “Dream job!”
