Letter to the editor: Making Pittsburgh greener
As a resident of Homewood, I am passionate about Pittsburgh’s future and its impact on our community. To achieve a greener, more inclusive city, we must prioritize accessible, equitable mobility over corporate profit and private transportation. Embracing net-zero cars and buses while addressing first- and last-mile gaps in public transit will play a pivotal role in this transformation.
Transitioning to sustainable transportation is vital. By investing in electric vehicles and other eco-friendly options, we can reduce emissions, protect public health and combat climate change. Legislation and zoning that support public transit use and affordable housing will enhance transit accessibility and efficiency, benefiting everyone.
Addressing the first- and last-mile gaps is crucial. Creative solutions like community shuttles and bike-sharing programs can connect residents to public transportation and promote active mobility.
Net-zero buses will further our journey toward sustainability, contributing to a cleaner, healthier urban environment.
Let us drive toward a brighter future for Pittsburgh — one where sustainable choices drive progress, environmental justice prevails and shared prosperity becomes a reality.
