Letter to the editor: McCormick’s hypocrisy

It’s not Sen. Dave McCormick’s complete and utter support of President Trump that annoys me. That’s to be expected of today’s loyalist Republicans. No, what really gets to me is his hypocrisy.

A case in point is his auto-response to an email I sent him about the murder of Alex Pretti: “… vigorously inflammatory rhetoric and violent protests have put law enforcement officers and others at risk.” McCormick believes, as do I (!), that “Dehumanizing rhetoric distorts reality and creates a dangerous climate where violence becomes the inevitable next step.” Further, he says that “we must all work to lower the temperature of our public discourse.”

Are you catching the hypocrisy in these Republican-mandated talking points? Have you listened to the vile bully-rants issued by the president?

How about “Ilhan Omar is garbage. She’s garbage.” “She (Rep. Ilhan Omar, an American citizen, by the way) should be put in jail or even worse, sent back to Somalia.”

Or what about this one? “We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking garbage into our country.” The president continually claims that most foreign-born U.S. residents “are on welfare, from failed nations or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs or drug cartels.” He blames them en masse for most of the crime in the country, despite plenty of evidence to the contrary.

If you don’t call Trump’s hate speech inflammatory, if you don’t consider that maybe he is the one fanning the flames of hate and discord in this country, then may I refer you to your nearest Funk & Wagnalls!
